1st case of Brazilian COVID-19 variant found in San Bernardino County, California

The first case of the Covid-19 variant, first discovered in Brazil earlier this year in California, was found in San Bernardino over the weekend, county officials said.

The California Department of Public Health alerted the county on Saturday to the case, San Bernardino County Public Information Officer David Wert said in a statement.

“It’s a real thing, it’s a matter of concern,” said Dr. George R. Ford of UCSF. “There’s a change that makes it somewhat more transmissible and a change that makes it a little less susceptible to naturally acquired immunity and vaccinated immunity.”

Health officials are now investigating how the resident, a man in his 40s, may have exposed his variable. According to officials, the man – who has not been vaccinated – is lonely at home.

Stanford’s earlier. “A lot of reports coming out of Brazil show that this variable is spreading more easily than something like the UK currency,” said Catherine Brisch. Brish says that while initial reports are relevant and there are many unknowns about this type, what is known is that masking and spacing will be effective.

“When we mix too much in close settings, sharing air with people of this type or other than the UK type clearly poses the same risks that it is more transmissible and you can spread it in group settings,” says D. Brush.

The county’s health officer, Dr. Michael S. “We are taking immediate and aggressive steps to detect the virus and keep it at bay, and are working with CDPH to expand the full genomic sequencing to identify more cases,” Sequeira said. “Slowing the spread of the disease and reducing all forms of spread is possible through strategic quarantine with contact, masking and social distance, and most importantly vaccination.”

The P1 “Brazilian” variant is thought to be more contagious than the most common strain of the virus.

In Brazil, Covid-19 cases are currently on the rise and vaccination rates are very low. Dr .. Both Brish and Rutherford, U.K. And echoed the importance of the COVID-19 vaccine in South Africa.

“The vaccine is not ineffective against it, it is not so effective against it,” says Dr. Rutherford.

This Brazilian variant has been confirmed in Washington and many other states in the country, including Washington, Oregon and Arizona.
