The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association say 16 players tested positive for coronavirus in the first wave of mandatory tests conducted in preparation for the season restart.
Those 16 players were part of a group of 302 evaluated on Tuesday, a 5.3% rate of positive results across the league.
Any positive player will remain in self-isolation until he complies with public health protocols to suspend isolation and has been cleared by a physician.
The names of the players were not disclosed; some, like Malcolm Brogdon of Indiana and teammates Jabari Parker and Alex Len, have publicly acknowledged that they have recently had a positive attitude.
The NBA season is slated to resume on July 30 with 22 teams participating in Orlando, Florida.
The league did not announce test results on staff and other members of the team’s travel parties, all of whom are also part of the mandatory testing program.
On Tuesday, teams were to begin evaluating players in their local markets every other day. Teams participating in the restart can start arriving in Florida on July 7. The training camps will take place from July 9 to 29 with three games per team.
On Thursday, the NBA shared with its players the safety plan to help enforce health and safety protocols and to secure their campus at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex for the resumption of the 2019-20 season, sources said. the link to ESPN.
