An 11-year-old girl renovated an old camper to make herself an adorant ‘little house’ complete with a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen area – and it only cost her $ 800.
Lauren Nelson, a high school teacher from Attica, New York, has spent the past two months in the transformed camper she called ‘Camp Hygge’, after being inspired by American Girl doll magazine to create her own space.
‘She showed us a small $ 650 bus they were selling. My husband was like, ‘That’s ridiculous, you could buy your own camper for that price,’ ‘Lauren’s mother, Aimee Nelson, told the local WKBW news store.
Great: Lauren Nelson, an 11-year-old from Attica, New York, has spent the past two months renovating a camper and converting it into her dream small home
Sociable! The newly renovated RV has white walls with light tea cabinets and accents
Everything you need! The camper has a small kitchen area and four bunk beds – perfect for sleepovers
Lauren took her father’s words to heart and began to save.
She borrowed the money she would have used to go to 4-H camp and raise more by selling items at garage sales.
As an emergency it would have saved her $ 400 when her neighbor in the street put a ‘For Sale’ sign on his RV – and his asking price was within her budget.
‘It was not very difficult. He said $ 500, and I said $ 400, because that was the money I had in my bank accounts and he said sold, ‘Lauren said of the negotiation.
Before: Lauren had to deep clean the camper, which had a family of mice living in it when she bought it
To: With the help of her family, Lauren covers the plaid benches with white fabric and added boho throw pillows
Project: The kitchen area had outdated wooden cabinets and wallpaper, but they were easy fixes for Lauren
Darling: She painted the cupboards tea and made a backsplash out of decals
The ancestors were dedicated to designing their dream thin house, even after they encountered a family of mice while deep cleaning the camper.
Lauren was wise with care when she accepted the project and spent only $ 400 on renovations and decor.
She took inspiration from Pinterest and HGTV’s Tiny House Hunters, which helped her achieve the look she went for.
With the help of her family, Lauren installed new floors, painted the kitchen cabinets a light tea, covered the plaid benches with white fabric, and made them a backyard above the laundry with decades.
Bargain: Lauren puts in need of new floors, which cost $ 1.39 per square foot
Decor: A straw bowl with oranges and a glass flower vase makes the place at home
Start of it all: Lauren was inspired to get her own RV after seeing a $ 650 VW bus in American Girl magazine
Summer Stay: Lauren now spends five days a week in her new little house
Outside space: Lauren has a reed chair and a small table outside for when she wants fresh air. She called the RV ‘Camp Hygge’ in reference to the Danish concept of sociability
Most of the decor came from her home, but she was also gifted throw pillows, sheets, a rug, and cozy goat blankets for her birthday.
When Lauren was ready, her dated camper was transformed into the beachy boho space she had promised, and she now spends five days a week there.
She named her spicy house Camp Hygge in reference to the Danish concept of sociability, which she learned from a Simplisafe TV commercial.
Her mother proudly shared before-and-after photos of the camper on Facebook, writing: ‘I just do not understand why my house does not look like that! ‘
Review: The go-getter bought the old RV from a neighbor who sold it for $ 500. She negotiated the price to $ 40, and told him that all she had in her bank accounts
Teamwork: Lauren’s mother (pictured) helped her control the benches to her liking
Fans! Lauren and her mother have received a number of messages that were inspired by their project and want to do something similar
Lauren hopes to one day have a career in home renovation, and it looks like she’s off to a great start.
The family has received a number of messages that were inspired by their project and want to do something similar.
‘So cool! I need a camper to hide in, ‘wrote one of them on Facebook.
‘You start in this world before the game,’ replied one remark. ‘You’ve already learned the value of a dollar and how to buy a coal and turn it into a diamond.’
Lauren wants others to take over similar projects.
‘If you’re looking for big plans in the future, you need to get out there and do it. Make it happen, ‘she said.
